HUNTINGTON, Utah (AP) — The wreckage of a small plane reported missing on Friday was located over the weekend in rugged mountain terrain in central Utah, authorities said.
The Cessna T206H was found Saturday in “steep, mountainous, very hazardous terrain” near Huntington, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a news release. Because of the terrain, the NTSB will rely on a wreckage recovery company to bring the aircraft to a secure location where an investigator will examine it.
Local and federal authorities have not said how many people were on the plane when it crashed, where it was headed or what caused it to go down. The single-engine plane is designed to carry up to five passengers and a pilot.
A preliminary report is expected within a month, and it could take up to two years for investigators to release a more detailed final report. No other information about the crash was released.
